Westminster Cathedral

The architecture class I am taking takes us to allllll different parts of London! Literally, everywhere. Class ends, and I'm even more clueless as to how we got half way across the city and back in 2 hours, but the perk is that we actually get to see everything! Our professor is so knowledgable and breaks up our classes into sections of London, so each class, we visit an entirely new area, with new history, and sights to see. It's fantastic! Although, at this point in the program, I have seen so much it almost all blurs together. I probably should have been keeping track as to where we went. But that's okay! Last class we went to Westminster Cathedral, a couple of blocks down the road from Westminster Abbey. They are wildly different, but both equally astonishing. Below are some pics of Westminster Abbey. It is a Catholic Cathedral, and is designed very much like St. Pauls Cathedral, however, the builders did not have enough money to finish the tile work, so the entire domed ceiling is bare brick. It gives it a really gloomy, serious vibe, but I loved it! Enjoy!

Exterior Brickwork!

Below are pictures from the areas the builders managed to tile with mosaic. SO PRETTY- but the pictures do not do the detail justice!

The top domes are HUGE, but you cannot tell because there is no mosaic tiling. It's a huge cathedral!
More mosaic work below...

You can take a teeennny tinnnyy elevator to the very top of the tower, and this is the view you get. It's amazing!
