Paris 6.9.2011-6.11.2011

I never really understood the phrase, "Paris is the city of love.." until I actually arrived IN Paris. It is truly one of the most breathtakingly beautiful cities I have ever been in! It is absolutely unbelievable! Below:
Street outside the hotel: Every street in Paris winds into some kind of magical, mystical maze of old buildings, wrought iron fences, statues, cobblestone, beautiful trees and gardens, cute little cafes and sandwich carts! This city has such a regal, but absolutely awe-inspiring energy to it!

From the balcony of the hotel room--The weather was stunning the first day. A little rainy the second, but all in all perfect 60ish degree weather. Light breeze, and beautiful clear nights.

Through the balcony gate.

Stained glass windows on each floor of the stairway. These stairs were gorgeous wooden, old spiral stairs, that were encased on the walls by stained glass.

The Luxembourg Gardens. Huge rectangular trees lined countless green pathways, with gravel sidewalks. Such a peaceful place- and not to mention a 5 minute walk from the hotel! It was absolutely amazing at night!

Fountain in Luxembourg Gardens. The greenery on the sides was formed and hung to look like Christmas garland, super-sized.

Front of the Luxembourg Gardens. Countless flower gardens surrounding the actual building, and chairs randomly placed wherever people wanted to sit and admire.

Paris apartment doors-- number one, they are HUGE: tall, solid wood, iron door handles, painted some parisian shade, and always adorned with some kind of ornate detailing. This door in particular had an entire wrought iron cut out so that you could see the courtyard preceding the living quarters.

Huge amazing stone building- I saw so many government and school buildings, and I don't exactly remember what one this was, but it was beautiful, and extended on either side for what seemed like miles!

Old ornate brick building, with HUGE arched windows. The red in the brick is hard to see in this photo, but it was so beautiful, and has such a piercing design to it. This building stuck out because of its coloring to me- so many of the buildings in Paris are light, either a very light stoney cream or gray color, and this building held its own for being so dark. It gave it a strength the other buildings lacked, but seemed to lack the easy eloquence the lighter buildings gave off. Such a unique mixture of architecture.

Notre Dame. Very cool, but I have to say it, it still does not even compare in the slightest to the magnificence of the Koelner Dom in Koeln, Germany. It actually looks tiny in comparison. Still beautiful, and commendable, but I love German Cathedrals more! :)
And that my friends is the Koelner Dom. No competition.
And lastly, but certainly not least, the magnificent Eiffel Tower.
Day
Night

After getting lost multiple times on the outrageous metro-train station here, practically breaking my ankle walking around for 7 hours straight, eating nothing but brie and bread baguettes, being stink-eyed by french waitresses, being gaga-eyed by old male waiters, and dealing with crazy amounts of tourists, I have come to a couple conclusions as to why I still adore Paris:
1. French Boys:  they are by far the most adorable/beautiful/glam/hot guys I have seen yet. Not joking, every single one of them number one was gorgeous, and as soon as they walked by you could smell them, and they smelled goooooood!!! ( perfect noses too )
2. The sheer look of the city and the way the building speak to each other is pure magic- you can sense the history and the power of age in everything here.
3. Cheap convenient stores that stay open really late, and also sell Stella in a can, for E 1.10. UNHEARD OF IN THE US!!!!!!!!!
4. Glam balconies, duh.

Yet, tomorrow I am so looking forward to returning to my home away from home, London, where I am understood and can actually get around. It didn't hurt to live in this dream called Paris for a little while though.
:)
