6.16.2011. Museum Exploration!

Today was the second day of class, and I had my sociology course on British youth culture from the 50's onward. The professor was SO intense, and so british, and so amazing. He gave us some good tips as to where the "indie/bohemian" legit places to go in London are. He said we better get the hell out of Chelsea if we are going to have ANY fun at all. Plus the class started with the Who, and ended with the Beatles "a day in the life..." It doesn't get much better than that. Because it was rainy and cold, we decided to hit up the natural science and natural history museums, located easily enough right next to each other.

Here's what I found!

World War II German doctor's kit---all the gruesome tools they used to save soldiers!

Photos and descriptions...

First World War German doctor's tool kit!
On one of the walls connecting exhibits together, was this amazing embroidered/quilted tapestry titled "Islamic Wedding" -- it was so detailed and beautiful. This picture does not do it any justice.

Then we went to the Natural Science Museum, and found this really great/creepy floor with a bunch of re-created historical situations. It was called "glimpses of history." It was SO cool- there were life size re-creations of all these different wars, situations, and places in history.  This particular glimpse was of the first World War, and it re-created a British medical camp, complete with trenches and an operating table.

Natural History Museum-- behind me is this really cool earth made of different sheets of metal and surrounded by the mapped out starry sky.

HUGE alligator and T-Rex skeletons! Zoinks!

Really intense sparkly rocks...

Then we went to this adorable bakery, called the Hummingbird Bakery: five dollar red velvet cupcake! Worth it...

Interior of the business card!

Exterior of card!

My roommate and I ended the night well with some wine and an illegally downloaded Love Actually. Doesn't get much better than that, other than the fact that Hugh Grant actually lives around the corner from us. What a life. :)
